About our group:

You will be working in the HAMR Media Development & Product Integration group in the Recording Media Organization (RMO) at Seagate's Fremont Research Center where we develop leading edge recording media technology for future hard disk drives from theoretical concept through technology development to product maturity. The team works closely with other departments in RMO such as equipment engineering and magnetic and recording test and characterization as well as with other Seagate Research and Development groups and external Research partners.

About the role - you will:

  • Work closely within the process team to fabricate and characterize novel media structures for Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording.
  • Use and develop magnetic, thermal and structural characterization techniques.
  • Use and develop modern data analysis tools to compare measurements with modeling results to understand the underlying media Physics.

About you:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a creative environment.

Your experience includes:

  • Solid understanding of and hands-on experience with thin film deposition tools, and a broad range of magnetic, thermal and structural characterization techniques.
  • Some experience with magnetic sensors, magnetic memory, spintronics or magnetic recording devices is a benefit.
  • Proficient data analysis skills with JMP, MatLab or similar software tools.
  • Availability to start in Spring 2025
  • PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science or a related field.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $119,225 - $170,502. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
