Job Summary:

The Financial Manager will be a key communicator and collaborator within the department, regularly providing updates to department leadership, and will serve as a critical link to college and campus partners. The position will work with department leadership to actively support Biochemistry's complex funding landscape by identifying departmental needs and providing leadership to academic programs, research initiatives, and administrative functions.


Responsibilities:
Guides financial and or accounting staff performing work in multiple finance functional areas and participates in day-to-day financial operations to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and reports, and/or supervises staff. Recommends and implements fiscal policies and advises on development of processes in support of efficient and compliant reporting.

  • 25% Plans, directs, and engages in financial and/or accounting operations for multiple areas; coordinates data management, budget preparation and management, and financial reporting efforts
  • 5% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 25% Identifies, verifies, and audits financial charges, credits, and authorizes payments
  • 20% Recommends, interprets, disseminates, and implements unit-focused fiscal policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with established rule, regulations and financial guidelines
  • 5% Participates in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of automated financial information systems
  • 10% Analyzes financial information and makes recommendations to unit leadership
  • 10% Serves as a subject matter expert to unit leadership regarding financial operations, status and reporting, and recommends process improvements

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have experience in a business or administrative setting, with a proven ability to lead complex programs or projects and leverage resources to achieve goals. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, including the ability to engage with diverse groups, set priorities, and make decisions. The candidate must demonstrate excellent time-management, problem-solving, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to both work independently and build positive professional relationships.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience managing or supervising a team and overseeing financial portfolios, particularly within higher education. Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW), state, and federal rules and regulations, as well as proficiency with UW financial systems and tools, is highly desirable. These qualifications will support effective resource management, policy navigation, and compliance within a complex organizational environment.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

After this position has been fully trained, we anticipate the ability to work remotely 2 days a week subject to a remote work agreement.

Salary:

Minimum $90,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The minimum starting salary for this position is $90,000 but, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
