National Grid is hiring Grid Solutions Manager for our Electric Network Control Modernization Team in Northborough, MA.

This position is a hybrid role that works remotely and reports onsite to Electric Control Centers in Massachusetts at least two days a week.

Our electric transmission and distribution control centers are adopting cutting edge technologies. We are modernizing the fundamental capabilities such as energy management and outage management systems while paving the path for utilization of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and distributed markets. Grid Automation is right in the middle of this journey. The distribution system continues to serve more solar and energy storage customers; both residential and commercial in size. National Grid's Massachusetts control centers will continue to excel in operating our electric grid safely, accurately, and efficiently. Our objective is to provide a customer-centric digital transition to our ever-complex network control operations.

Job Purpose

Grid Solutions Manager is a leadership role, responsible for developing short-term and long-term executable strategic capabilities for the electric organization. This role represents the electric control centers in key grid modernization initiatives such as FERC 2222, Distribution System Operator (DSO) and Distribution Markets Operator (DMO). Both capability development, execution and operation will be spearheaded by the Grid Solutions Manager. Extensive change management, customer-centricity and hands-on, competence-based solution development is key to success. Successful and sincere stakeholder management across our organizations (Electric, Customer, IT Digital) is key to successful framework development and launch of these initiatives. Finally, experience in electric system operations, system planning, asset management in electric transmission, distribution and renewable generation will be vital to sustainable solution development.

Key Accountabilities
  • Shape the strategic direction for the entity, including risk appetite, to grow the business, defend its core activities and deliver shareholder, customer and stakeholder value.
  • Develop and prioritize the organizational, operational and financial focus areas and strategic objectives to maximize the delivery of short and long-term shareholder value.
  • Take the lead on evaluating issues, qualifying their importance and impact on current and future business performance.
  • Evaluate insights delivered through forecasts and scenario modeling and incorporate them into a compelling long-term view of how and where National Grid participate and influence in a changing landscape.
  • Monitor and evaluate the changing political and regulatory landscape to qualify the impact and ensure the business is ready for major regulatory/policy changes.
  • Develop solutions and shape National Grid's response to critical issues and opportunities, collaborating and coordinating across National Grid where relevant.
  • Lead a highly motivated, innovative and focused team, developing a talent and performance management culture that drives value through employee engagement and successfully meets or exceeds strategic objectives.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
  • Ability to communicate and influence internal and external executive level stakeholders.
Qualifications

* Bachelor's in an accredited degree in STEM, Economics, Business or relevant

* MBA degree or ambition is highly desired

* Minimum 10 years of experience in the electric power systems industry, preferably in different chapters (T&D, Asset Management, Field Operations, Strategy etc.)

* Proven track record in leading grid modernization efforts at a leadership role or as a lead role

* Knowledge and proven experience in executing in a regulatory environment

* Experience working with other regulated utilities and Independent System Operator

* Hands-on understanding of the utility sector and utility operations including exposure to our customers

* Basic understanding of energy market operations, distributed energy resource management and IT Digital infrastructure behind these systems.

* Presentation and communication skills on Microsoft Office platforms

* Good business acumen, understand and align Grid Modernization business strategies with Agile practices

* Demonstrated problem-solving skills - Ability to analyze complex business problems and develop, lead the development of solutions

* Proven leadership skills to guide teams and influence stakeholders

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration

$141k - $199k a year
