SENIOR STOREKEEPER DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS & PARKS CITY OF WORCESTER The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Storekeeper for the Sanitation Division within the Department of Public Works & Parks. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Sanitation, the position will perform both manual and clerical duties in supply operations, including procurement, receipt, storage, distribution and control of supplies and materials as well as personnel record keeping, preparing payrolls, keeping track of time off requests and more for a moderately-sized stockroom, office or warehouse. The Senior Storekeeper is responsible for supervising other employees and personnel participating in the requisitioning, receipt, inspection, storage, issue and minor repair of a variety of supplies, parts, equipment and tools if applicable. Bilingual and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Oversee purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and purchasing contracts in accordance with the purchasing and budgeting procedures for the Sanitation Division
- Receive, store, distribute, inventory and control all appropriate sanitation supplies and materials
- Issue supplies, materials and equipment including general supplies, building and maintenance materials, repair parts, materials for construction, and other heavy construction material
- Keep inventory records and make periodic inventory checks to reconcile physical count with records
- Process, coordinate and track purchase requisitions and purchase orders
- Record and maintain employee attendance records including vacation schedules, work roster, etc to ensure proper coverage for the division
- Perform payroll related functions in accordance with the finance procedures for the department
- Assist in snow removal by keeping track of time for labor, City and hired equipment
- Access, enter, retrieve and track Sanitation Division related work orders
- Prepare reports, including estimates and recommendations
- Prepare bills and charges including recording expenses of labor, equipment, materials, contract costs and any other charges
- Receive and record citizen complaints over the telephone and issue appropriate instructions as necessary
- Assist immediate supervisors and personnel on an as-needed basis with additional administrative tasks
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of a wide variety of supplies, materials, tools and equipment and related terminology.
- Knowledge with accounting principles, inventory systems, and storekeeping methods and procedures.
- Ability to check parts, supplies and equipment against specifications.
- Ability to make arithmetical computations with considerable accuracy.
- Ability to keep accurate stock records and make reports when requested.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public.
- Ability to operate a computer, including word processing, database, and spreadsheets programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access)
- Creation of and/or acceptance of work orders for Water related issues and research in the CSRS system.
- Strength and ability to facilitate the handling of bulky and heavy stock items.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Staff management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in a warehouse, office, or store operation where a wide variety of tools, supplies and equipment are dispensed.
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three (3) years of experience in purchasing, stockrooms, and/or inventory control
- Three (3) years of experience in a public works, water supply, utility, or construction setting
- Knowledge of methods and practices pertaining to inventory control
- Two (2) years supervisory experience
