WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

Perform daily lead functions in the National Molecular Laboratory, a busy CLIA-licensed, AABB-accredited molecular testing laboratory responsible for patient and blood donor testing. Conduct review of test results and manage daily workflow and prioritization. Participate in troubleshooting or investigations. Oversee quality control and preventative maintenance functions. Demonstrate excellent customer service and positive professional image. Train and perform competency assessments of technical staff. Adhere to standard operating procedures and interpret test results in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

  • Lead and prioritize daily workflow activities.
  • Perform record review, training, coaching, competency assessments, and general oversight of daily activities. Provide input into hiring decisions, and performance evaluations.
  • Perform and interpret high complexity molecular testing in adherence to procedures and good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Consult and communicate with staff at other medical facilities, to identify appropriate testing and aid in interpretation of results.
  • Participate in external and internal inspections/audits and corrective actions. Assist in concern and problem management and quality improvement activities.
  • Prepare and review reports written and electronic.
  • Oversee training activities and on-boarding of new staff.

Standard Schedule: 7 am to 3:30 pm Mon-Fri

Pay Information: $41 - $46/hr.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Medical Technology or related field required. MB (ASCP) certification preferred.

    Experience: Minimum 6 years of experience to include 4 years in a CLIA certified or other GLP laboratory and 2 years of general lab experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Certification may be substituted for 1 year of specific lab experience. Experience with good manufacturing practices, multi-channel pipetting, DNA extraction, DNA sequencing and alignment software, SNP genotyping, use of standard molecular biology laboratory instrumentation, plasmid ligation and bacterial cloning technologies.

    Management Experience: N/A

    Skills & Abilities: Effective communication/interpersonal skill and excellent computer and technical skills required. Must possess demonstrated teaching abilities and attention to detail. Ability to work independently to solve problems. Ability to work on a team.

    Travel: May involve variable locations and some travel.

    *Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30pounds. The work environment will consist of moderate noise. The employee must be able to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet. This job may require the employee to be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out. This position will require the ability to use the stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods of time and the ability to keep or regain the body's balance or stay upright when in an unstable position. The employee must be able to frequently use oneor two hands to grasp, move or assemble objects.The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle andhave the ability tosit at a computer terminal for an extendedperiod of time.
