Custodian

The City of Takoma Park is seeking a full-time Custodian to clean and maintain City propertywhile working under the general supervision of the Custodial Crew Leader and Facility Maintenance Supervisor. The incumbent will perform routine building maintenance to include cleaning and repairing the property, systems, and equipment of multiple locations within the City of Takoma Park.

Typical Duties include:

• Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, buffing, and spot cleaning the floors of offices, hallways, and meeting rooms;
• Cleaning and sanitizing water fountains, restrooms, kitchen areas, and elevators, restocks supplies in each area;
• Removing trash and recyclable materials from offices and building grounds;
• Dusting and polishing wood work and furniture;
• Cleaning entrance windows and showcase glass;
• Performing basic carpentry and performing minor repairs, reporting other repair needs to appropriate personnel;
• Painting interior and exterior building surfaces;
• Shoveling snow, spreading ice treatment;
• Snaking clogged drains;
• Moving furniture, off-loading supplies and shipments as needed;
• Replacing bulbs in lighting fixtures;
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements and working conditions include:

• Consistent walking, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping;
• Consistent lifting of objects under 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of objects over 25 pounds;
• Climbing ladders and working at heights, use of some power tools and other equipment;
• Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts is consistent.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Six months to one year of progressively responsible related experience; or,
• Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
• Valid Driver's License

The starting hourly wage for this position is expected to be between $18.56 and $21.87, and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. This position is eligible formembership in the AFSCME union.
