Civil Service Title- Administrative Engineer ( M3)

Serves as Assistant Chief Engineer in the Bureau of Bridge Maintenance, Inspection and Operations (MIO). Assist with the supervision of the entire bureau and assumes full authority in the Associate Deputy Commissioner's absence. Provides direction for the efficient routine, remedial and emergency repair of the Divisions 809 Bridges including 23 movable bridges and 6 mechanically ventilated tunnels. Provides executive direction for all activities pertaining to the maintenance/repair of electrical/mechanical and structural bridge components to ensure proper function of both movable and fixed bridges. Oversees the development of policies and procedures for the bureau, with special focus on ensuring consistency among units. Oversees the coordination of repair and operation activities by ensuring continuous communication between each unit of the activities of the other. Monitors conformance with all applicable safety standards and oversees the coordination of repair and operational activities with other governmental agencies. Oversees in-house structural designs and the preparation of structural repair details. Oversees mechanical and electrical repairs and component replacements. Oversees both engineering and trades staff in the implementation of structural repairs as well as the troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical failures. Provides direction for the provision of an adequate and coordinated response to structural failures and other emergency conditions on a 24/7 basis. Performs other related administrative and technical duties.

Strong knowledge of structural, mechanical and electrical engineering practices and procedures. At least six years of full-time satisfactory experience in Bridge Maintenance and Repair and have real world experience with the use of union labor. Must be available to respond to emergency conditions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Minimum Qualifications 1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
