Job Purpose

The New Model Prototype Lead will lead the prototype assembly of engines in both an offline and online environment. This position will be responsible for evaluating product change points, identifying the impact to production tools, parts delivery racks, and other process related concerns. This position will also be responsible for developing and creating related budget requirements for those items, as well as required training engines and replacement parts to successfully complete production associate training. The associate will be required to support the identification of potential safety and quality problems and determine potential concerns for maintaining a smooth production flow. This position will report to the New Model project leader of the designated line and manage process trainer associates' daily activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and approve process training associates and document staff issued items, assigning task, providing feedback and education on mistakes or gaps identified.
  • Develop and coordinate (manage) support assoc. (trainers) for the entire New Model flow up to and through trial events and Mass pro.
  • Schedule, analyze, and issue Assembly department build activity based on trial event manager parts receiving and final assembly shipping times.
  • Determine appropriate production loss requirements related to each day of each event and communicate with related Assembly line leader to incorporate into monthly production schedule. Determine each events measured parts units and schedule them appropriately to balance workload and minimize downtime.
  • Determine what process tools and part delivery racks will be needed in mass production by reviewing the design changes and process plans. Create a budget for process tools and part delivery racks.
  • Review Design changes and assure correct documentation is being prepared for training, parts difference sheets and CCP sheets.
  • Lead meetings before and after build events and manage items through the project punch list.
  • Create, track and report event downtime plan and actual results. With future CM's throughout NM events.
  • Report countermeasure request status.
  • Manage new model tools, racks etc. expense budgets to achieve project cost target and future operating costs.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelors or associates degree in a related field or equivalent related job experience
  • 0-4 years of related experience
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem solving / root cause analysis skills.
  • Capable of leading and teaching others.
  • Capable of delivering meeting information to diverse groups of associates including production associates and engineers.

Working Conditions

  • 5-10 hours OT/ week
  • Domestic travel 1-3 times per year, 1-3 days, plus occasional day trip to Ohio Honda locations.
  • International travel is possible up to 2 weeks at a time, multiple times a year.
  • Manufacturing environment with multiple model knowledge with high pace workload
