Overview

To provide mechanical engineering support for production programs, including fixture design and optimization. To support the disposition of discrepant parts and materials. To support failure analysis and corrective action implementation. To support the design and analysis of electronic modules of low complexity


Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support to production on existing products. Interface with electrical engineers, manufacturing, process and quality engineers including various internal personnel, customers and suppliers to determine mechanical design requirements and constraints.
  • Design mechanical fixtures & tools and the associated design documentation.
  • Provide design and detail drawing direction to drafting.
  • Create, check and release formal engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with and/or direct machinists, technicians, assembler and suppliers to execute hardware builds and tests.
  • Perform simple thermal, structural, weight and tolerance analysis on hardware.
  • Conduct tooling design, optimization and implementation.
  • Write-up Engineering Change Orders (ECO) to production drawings.
  • Participate as a member of a Material Review Board (MRB) to disposition rejected hardware; support failure analysis and corrective actions implementation.
  • Optimize electronic packaging.
  • Prepare and present information to internal and external customers.
  • Participate in safety training and actively comply with safety policies and practices; maintain a clean and safe workstation.
  • Improve and maintain 5S in your area; make suggestions for improvements.
  • Participate in Lean Six/Sigma activities in own work area as well as events for other areas to enhance cross-functional problem solving.
  • Collaborate in team meetings and activities.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or Science.
  • A working knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ANSI Y 14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 1 - 2+ years engineering experience in a high-tech industry.
  • 1 - 2+ years comprehensive experience with electromechanical packaging
  • 1 - 2+ years intermediate experience with 3D modeling software (preferably SolidWorks) and a 2D CAD package such as DraftSight or AutoCAD.
  • 1 - 2+ years experience and solid understanding in the fields of machine design and the mechanics of materials related to electronics packaging.
  • A basic knowledge of electronics packaging, including MIC assembly processes, Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) fabrication and circuit card assembly processes, various electronic interconnect methods, along with the thermal, dynamic and structural analysis of electronic components
  • An understanding of metal fabrication, electronics assembly and the associated manufacturing flow

Salary Range: $73,158 - $117,537 annually (San Diego)

Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
