Job Summary:

The Department of Radiology, University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a visionary and dynamic physician-scientist to serve as the Vice Chair of Research, as part of an academic career within the Department of Radiology at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor on the Tenure Track.

The successful applicant will be a nationally or internationally recognized leader in imaging research with a track-record of successfully obtaining extramural funding at the NIH level or equivalent. They will also possess a strong background in research strategy, research mentorship and professional development, and research administration.

The successful candidate will perform research as part of their duties as the Vice Chair of Research in addition to serving in a clinical capacity for the Department of Radiology. The clinical area will be determined by the successful applicant's sub-specialty expertise and interests in Radiology.

The Vice Chair of Research will work closely with additional Department of Radiology leaders, including the Department of Radiology Chair, to lead a strong research culture conducive to successful academic productivity and extramural grant funding.


Responsibilities:

The Vice Chair of Research will join the Department of Radiology and will have clinical, research and teaching responsibilities as described below; however, research responsibilities are expected to be the candidate's primary area of focus and effort.

Research and Research Administration responsibilities:
1. As principal investigator, build and lead a cutting-edge extramurally funded research program in the imaging sciences, including trainees and collaborators across the University of Wisconsin (UW) campus.
2. Oversee the strategic and operational aspects of the research enterprise within the Department of Radiology.
3. Work with Department and institutional leadership to foster and grow the research footprint of imaging-based research across the UW campus, particularly the Department of Medical Physics, School of Medicine and Public Health, College of Engineering, and collaborative enterprises.
4. Develop and support informal and formal mentoring opportunities for trainees and junior faculty in the area of imaging-based research with the goal of developing the next generation of imaging researchers.
5. Foster existing and develop new collaborative relationships with key industrial partners.
6. Create and support a strong culture of academic excellence, with a goal of academic impact, productivity, and extramural funding.

Clinical responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical care within their section(s) of sub-specialty expertise.
2. Interpret and report imaging studies and/or image-guided procedures depending on the sub-specialty section(s) of clinical expertise.

Teaching responsibilities:
1. Participate in the teaching efforts of their section and the Department of Radiology Department. Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, conferences, and clinical assignments, as well as daily training of residents, fellows, and medical students.
2. Support education opportunities in research career development for trainees and faculty.
