Job Title: Lead Sr Staff Technical Writer Location: 1048 Pearl Street, Suite 200, Boulder, CO 80302 *Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within normal commuting distance from the Trade Desk. Inc. office in Boulder, CO. Job Duties: Responsible for writing technical documentation, according to best practices and style guidelines set by the department in addition to writing organized, clear, concise documentation and using appropriate terminology. Manage a team of Technical Writers and oversee the successful and timely delivery of their projects by ensuring that they have proper support to succeed in their projects and providing guidance for their career growth. Oversee complex overhauls of the Knowledge Portal documentation, including information architecture and explanations of new concepts, as large product rollouts occur. Ensure a quality user experience with easy discovery and comprehension as evinced by user feedback and usage data. Responsible for editing existing content written by others, adhering to best practices as well as acting as peer reviewer for other writers. Publish documentation as online help and be responsible for writing and maintaining the documentation online as needed. Work with product managers and designers to obtain written descriptions of the intended product as well as design mockups and use prototype software to try and experience the product itself to understand the user's experience. Work closely with stakeholders to understand customer needs and scope documentation that needs to be provided and review customer feedback and customer usage behaviors provided through feedback tools to be able to understand what needs to be published. Gather information from user experience research and internal user testing to understand the challenges that users face and help them overcome challenges through better documentation or by helping the product designers with better text in the user interface. Responsible for using source control tools provided by the department to appropriately track and save a history of changes to documents. Responsible for creating or selecting visuals, typically in the form of charts, diagrams, and screenshots. Contribute to "layout" by factoring in how the customer should experience the documentation, including creating an appropriate sequence and appropriate navigation hierarchies and naming patterns. Salary: $165,200 - $247,800/year Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Technical Writing, Technical Communication, Computer Science or related field and seven (7) years of experience in the job offered or related role. Must have seven (7) years of experience with: writing, editing, and publishing online technical content, including online help, instructions for use, operation manuals, user guides, product onboarding guides, or knowledge base articles; and working with product managers, engineers, client services, and others to understand customer needs and create or edit technical product content for users. Must have five (5) years of experience with: using one or more technical content authoring and content management tools; following established best practices and guidelines for writing or contributing to improved practices and guidelines; and using common source control and bug tracking tools. Must have two (2) years of experience with: light code modifications to write or format content, including any of the following: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, or Markdown; and creating visual content as part of published written content. The actual amount may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and location.
