Job Summary

Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) Director of Academic Satellites or designee at Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), this position performs professional client/patient care (individual, group, crisis intervention, and case management) assigned by quarterly clinic schedule. The focus of this position is to provide mental health counseling services to School of Veterinary Medicine students (.5 FTE) and School of Medicine students (.5 FTE). Provides campus programs on mental health and wellness education, consultations, multicultural concerns and prevention. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements. May provide supervision and training to Counseling Services trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Masters clinical/counseling degree and licensure (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) required. Masters therapist applicants are governed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and are required to possess a valid California license. Masters therapist applicants possessing a valid license in another state must obtain California licensure within 30 days of job offer.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Masters clinical/counseling degree and licensure (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) required.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or socio-cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience treating diverse clients using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy/counseling.
  • Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis.
  • Experience establishing professional work relationships.
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and treatment interventions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest and experience providing psychotherapy groups and wellness workshops.
  • Experience working with historically underserved or marginalized client populations (e.g. LGBTQIA, African Diaspora, Chicanx/Latinx, Native American, etc.).
  • Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student service orientation.
  • Ability to provide supervision to predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees.
  • Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations.

Department Overview

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Accreditation for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association).
