Wieland currently has an immediate need for a Grinding Operator to set-up and operate slitter machines and continually monitor materials and machine parameters to assure compliance with safety and customer specifications. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined - metals industry is a plus! This position will be located at our Wieland Thin Strip facility in Waterbury, CT.

Starting Pay: $25.40/hr.

Schedule: 2nd Shift

Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly



Responsibilities

Grinding Operator Responsibilities:

    Comply with all safety rules and regulations
  • Follow PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and JSP (Job Safety Practice) documents
  • Read, understand, and follow all Work Instructions Specific to the equipment
  • Detect and report faulty operations, improper material and unusual conditions.
  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Set-up and operate Grinding Machines. Continually monitor material and machine parameters to assure compliance with specifications.
  • Determine proper roll combinations to achieve desired shape and surface finish.
  • Use electronic contact and non-contact gauges, indicators, and controls to operate machine and check lab to ensure product meets appropriate specifications.
  • Move material to and from machine using the grinding cart.
  • Direct the work rolls that you work on in the AS 400 to show roll IF number and the amount of time it took to grind the roll for RA, crown and shape of the roll.
  • Perform light maintenance on machines, such as checking machine coolant and change as needed cleaning machine each shift and add hydraulic oil as needed. Change filters as needed as well.
  • Perform other similar or related duties or flex to other areas of the plant as required

Grinding Operator Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and write English. Ability to maintain production records and logs.
  • Employment record reflection reliability. Above average attendance.
  • 3-5 years' experience running Grinding Machines or other related grinding machinery.
  • Ability to perform simple math, addition and subtraction
  • Familiarity with use of micrometers and calipers
  • Excellent decision making skills and organizational ability
  • Mechanically inclined, comfort level with using small hand tools
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
