Responsibilities
- Preparing initial drafts of purchase agreements and reviewing and analyzing purchase agreements to flag critical terms, details and deadlines.
- Maintaining a detailed matrix of critical dates and deadlines contained within purchase agreements.
- Maintaining various internal reports of new transactions and amendments used by various corporate departments.
- Maintaining document archiving system and coordinating with appropriate divisional employees to ensure completeness.
- Interfacing extensively with the land acquisition team regarding various transaction matters, as well as assist in acquisition projects.
- Analyzing title reports, surveys and underlying documents and working with the land acquisition team, title companies, and third parties to revise such reports and to resolve title issues.
- Assisting with land acquisition closings, including preparing escrow instructions, closing checklists and other closing documentation.
- Serving as a highly professional point of contact for other Meritage employees, as well as attorneys, escrow and title officers, city officials and the like.
- Word processing of legal documents, including creating, editing, proofreading and blacklining documents.
Qualifications
- College degree or paralegal training required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a real estate transactional paralegal required.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Self-starter who is interested in growing professionally.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, flexible, tenacious, comfortable in a fast-paced environment and willing to be part of the team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
