Requisition ID req31877 Working Title Research Scientist 2 Position Grade 12 Position Summary The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine seeks a talented and highly motivated person to fill a full-time Research Scientist 2 position in the LncRNA, Epigenetics, and Genome Organization (LEGO) Laboratory at North Campus. The successful candidate will be vital in advancing the lab's research objectives and organization. Candidates should be ready to demonstrate basic laboratory skills and routine technical tasks associated with executing research protocols. Successful candidates will perform and/or assist in animal cell culture, nucleic acid/protein isolation, biochemistry assays, qPCR, preparing samples for Next-generation sequencing, and immunofluorescence/FISH assay. Furthermore, the candidate will be an ambitious researcher eager to work on interdisciplinary projects with the lab's Principal Investigator (PI) and lab members. The candidate should possess excellent organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills to succeed in this position. They will work closely with fellow team members and coordinate laboratory research projects. This will involve managing research materials and specimens, maintaining equipment, performing quality control, collecting/analyzing/interpreting data, and adhering to all laboratory and safety protocols. In addition to their laboratory duties, the successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in research publications and present their findings at scientific conferences. The position also provides opportunities for professional development and mentorship, enabling individuals to advance their scientific careers while contributing to groundbreaking research. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree with at least 2 years of experience directly working in the field of cancer biology, epigenetics, biochemistry, or genetics/genomics is preferred. * Experience working with RNA and proteins, preferably solid knowledge of epigenetic regulation and cancer biology displayed by 1 or 2 peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations. * Knowledge of fluorescence microscopy and in situ hybridization is advantageous but not mandatory. * Basic knowledge of handling and organizing omics data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, etc.) and bioinformatics/statistic software (GraphPad, R, Python, etc.) is ideal.
