Environmental Compliance Specialist BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.
Position Summary
BB&E is currently looking for an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support our existing federal and private sector portfolios. This position is based in Northville, MI.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist BB&E's clients with sustainability initiatives, management system implementation, and maintaining compliance with Federal, state, and local environmental health and safety (EH&S) regulations
- Assist with environmental compliance permitting including air, stormwater, and wastewater and maintaining compliance with environmental permits for our clients
- Oversee regulatory and other external reporting requirements and ensure reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner, e.g. Tier II reports, TRI, Form R reports, biennial hazardous waste reports, discharge monitoring reports, air emission reports, etc.
- Develop plans, , including Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), hazardous waste contingency plans, waste management plans, etc.
- Assist clients with onsite waste characterization and proper waste disposal options
- Deliver environmental training to clients
- Conduct EH&S audits
Key Qualifications
- Certifications: OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is required; other applicable certifications could include EIT, GIT, PE, PG, CHMM, CEP etc.
- Experience with ISO 14001 and 45001 management systems
- Knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local environmental regulations including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate with clients at all levels within an organization
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Software: Proficiency using MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously
Experience & Education
- Experience: 4-8 plus years' experience in multi-media environmental compliance for industrial and/or federal facilities is required
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Engineering is required
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to: stand/walk/kneel/crouch and to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time; operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; lift up to 25 lbs.; speak clearly so listeners can understand; understand the speech of another person; talk or hear both in person and by telephone; see details of objects that are more than a few feet away; work on-site 5 days a week
- Work Environment: Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions; occasionally required to navigate rough terrain, work in confined spaces, and operate at heights
- PPE & Safety: Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary; may encounter hazards or contaminants during work tasks
