About the Position:

The HyFlex & LMS Support Specialist will provide essential technical and instructional support for HyFlex course delivery and events across graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as for faculty and staff within the Costello College of Business. This role requires expertise in video conferencing tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams and the ability to troubleshoot common technical issues with microphones, cameras, speakers, and other AV equipment. Secondarily, this role will also assist with the deployment of functions in the Learning Management System (LMS) and utilizing analytics to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement. This role is essential to maintaining smooth course operations, especially during peak terms like the fall and spring semesters when hundreds of courses require updates. Hours are generally flexible but must include availability during HyFlex course delivery times (e.g., 6:30-8:30pm for graduate courses).

Responsibilities:

HyFlex Event Facilitation:



  • Provide comprehensive support for HyFlex events at the Arlington and Fairfax campuses by ensuring seamless technology integration and a smooth, engaging experience for all college events;
  • Be available for technical assistance during HyFlex class sessions, which are being monitored by a Classroom Support Agent. Hours are generally flexible but must include availability during HyFlex course delivery times (e.g., 6:30-8:30pm for graduate courses);
  • Assist with faculty meetings and special events (e.g., award ceremonies, faculty candidate interviews, holiday gatherings) approximately 10-12 times per semester;
  • Assist users as needed with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint;
  • Provide training on additional tools and pedagogical approaches to engage students in HyFlex learning environments (e.g., student engagement features in videoconferencing); and
  • Troubleshoot common technical issues, such as microphone, camera, and speaker malfunctions, to minimize disruptions during instructional sessions, academic advising, and events.


Course Preparation and Updates:



  • Identify and address any potential course issues prior to the start of the term to prevent operational disruptions;
  • Assist in copying, editing, and updating course materials for assigned sections in the Costello College of Business (CCB) learning management system each term;
  • Adjust due dates and ensure all activities are accurately reflected in the course calendar and notification stream based on faculty-provided syllabi;
  • Collaborate with assigned course leads to maintain developmental (primary) courses to ensure copy integrity over time;
  • External Publisher Link Management: Set up and manage external publisher links in CCB courses to ensure seamless access to materials and resources; and
  • Assist faculty in automating complex processes, such as item bank creation, to support more randomized and varied assessment options.


Analytics and Data Support:



  • Enable "New Analytics" in all CCB courses; and
  • Generate selected Admin reports for regular review.


Required Qualifications:



  • Effective communication and project management abilities; capable of balancing multiple responsibilities with independence;
  • Strong collaboration skills with a proven ability to support diverse teams and professionals in delivering presentations and hosting events within hybrid environments, ensuring seamless experiences for both in-person and remote participants;
  • Experience supporting live events using audio-visual equipment (microphones, cameras, etc.) and managing live streaming through video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams), maintaining high-quality broadcasts for audiences across various locations;
  • Proven ability to provide technical support for staff and teams in blended, online, and face-to-face settings, with expertise in strategies to engage diverse participants and enhance experiences across multiple delivery formats; and
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and familiarity with multimedia tools.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in higher education supporting live academic and advising events, including technology setup, recording, and troubleshooting; and
  • Familiarity with advising processes and events in a college setting, with experience in technical training and workshops for both instructional and advising staff.
