Job Description

Torch Technologies, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a motivated and experienced engineer/analyst/scientist to lead an established and highly-respected team supporting Missile Defense System (MDS) assessments on Redstone Arsenal. This position involves managing and participating in advanced technology projects conducted attwo Torch-led organizations: Collaborative Test and Evaluation Center (CTEC) and Sensors Collaborative Test and Evaluation Center (SCTEC). The selected candidate will perform a wide range of technical leadership duties involving algorithm testing, data generation, modeling and simulation, and analysis in support of Missile Defense Agency (MDA) initiatives.

Responsibilities include leading and coordinating a team of 40+ engineers, analysts, scientists, and information technology professionals in:



  • Evaluating active/passive sensor performance, data fusion, multi-sensor tracking and target discrimination algorithms, system-level command and control algorithms, and missile defense battle management techniques.
  • Developing and evaluating advanced prototypes, creating and executing plans to assess third-party algorithms, planning and conducting advanced MDS survivability assessments, and planning and conducting exploratory studies to identify, characterize, and assess MDS mission gaps.
  • Coordinating with Government/Contractor Program Managers, prime development contractors, and external stakeholders and customers to identify and address missile defense challenges and opportunities.
  • Leading, mentoring, and guiding CTEC and SCTEC exploratory research focus areas and efforts.

Job Requirements

This position requires a solid foundation in defense-related technologies, a good understanding of DoD missions and operations, a desire to learn new technologies, a proven ability to effectively lead teams of high-tech professionals, and a strong commitment to supporting national defense. Desired experience includes: computer modeling and simulation, statistics-based data analysis, knowledge of optical and/or RF phenomenologies, operation and/or evaluation of missile defense command and control systems, and knowledge of DoD budgeting and contracting.

Required Qualifications and Skills:



  • B.S. in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • 12+ years of related experience
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in solving complex technical problems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor highly technical teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, C++, or other programming languages
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills:



  • M.S. in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • Extensive experience with missile defense system elements, C2BMC, and missile defense operations
  • Missile defense system-level and/or element-level computer modeling and simulation
  • Experience leading radar and/or missile defense systems engineering and assessments
  • Data analysis planning and execution
  • Artificial intelligence / machine learning
