Position Responsibilities

Deltek is seeking an experienced architectural specifier to help develop and grow AIA MasterSpec, the most comprehensive and trusted collection of master guide construction specifications in the US. Owned by the American Institute of Architects and published by Deltek, the MasterSpec library is used as the basis for more than 60% of building design documents in the United States.
As an Architectural Specifications Writer, you will help ensure the quality and integrity of nonproprietary MasterSpec sections spanning most MasterFormat Divisions below Division 30. In this capacity, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and update MasterSpec sections (including supporting documents) and create new sections by researching relevant sources, including: product literature, manufacturers' websites, industry standards, trade association and professional society publications, reference materials, and model building codes.
  • Evaluate products from Building Product Manufacturers for inclusion in the MasterSpec product database, using strong technical knowledge, subject matter expertise, and specification writing norms and conventions.
  • Participate in periodic meetings of the AIA MasterSpec peer review committees, actively contributing to discussions and/or presenting.
  • Respond to inquiries from MasterSpec subscribers and internal collaborators regarding the content in your purview.
  • Make occasional presentations and/or write thought leadership pieces related to the subject matter of assigned specification sections.
  • Maintain professional credentials and participate in relevant industry organizations and events to maintain subject matter expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Registered architect or CSI CDT-certified professional. CCS and/or CCCA certification(s) are a bonus. LEED AP certification a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience with firms specializing in architecture, engineering, construction management, specification consulting, or program management.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience editing or writing specification sections required. Familiarity with MasterSpec and CSI specification writing conventions preferred.
  • Must be collaborative and able to provide constructive feedback.
  • Experience working with others in a team setting and managing projects.
  • Must have the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time and the ability to professionally deal with colleagues and customers across disciplines.
  • Strong software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Bluebeam. Experience with BIM, Revit, and other tools of the trade desired. Ability and willingness to learn new software programs.

Compensation Information

The U.S. salary range for this position is $57000.00 - $99750.00. This range is subject to change as Deltek takes a number of factors into consideration when determining individual base pay, such as location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including incentive compensation and equity.
