Position Summary

The Department of Neurosciences is seeking a highly motivated laboratory aide who will participate in biological assays performed in the laboratory that will analyze protein and mRNA levels from tissue samples collected from previously performed experiments. The candidate will work in the lab under general supervision to perform total protein content, protein levels of keys targets, RNA extraction, and quantitative PCR. The research focuses on the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure in mouse offspring and neuroimmune interactions with the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis function.

The position requires the collection, compilation and statistical analyses of data The position requires following controlled protocol parameters, having excellent documentation and observational skills. Research is conducted in a neuroscience research laboratory on rodent tissues (peripheral nerves, spinal cord, brain, and blood). Prepares data, samples, and/or specimens.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at date of hire.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of junior or senior year of high school; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in a field related to biology and/or biochemistry

* Experience in pipetting

* Basic understanding of scientific methodology

* Interest in learning or the ability to run and troubleshoot protein assays

* Interest in learning laboratory management

* Available to work on Saturdays and Sundays as needed

* Familiarity to process biochemical data using scientific software (e.g., Word, Powerpoint, Prism, SPSS & Excel)
