Summary:

The Assistant Director, Sales Consulting leads a dedicated team of Sales Specialists, directing all facets of their responsibilities. This role ensures the successful implementation of distribution sales strategies and campaigns while developing effective territory/advisor sales plans. The Assistant Director encourages robust partnerships across sales, product, and distribution functions to strengthen relationships and achieve product sales targets. This includes executing daily sales activities and in-market opportunity development. As a key contributor to the vision and creation of our overall product sales execution strategy, this role ensures that the Sales Specialists remain current with distribution targets, relevant selling skills, and effective resource utilization. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing a motivated, proactive, and innovative team with a sales mindset.

Primary Duties & Qualifications:

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments and sales leadership to design, implement, and refine processes that deliver sales results and drive business enhancements.

  • Manage a high-performing sales development team, providing critical insights into sales activity, strategy effectiveness, and advisor needs to the organization and key stakeholders.

  • Ensure team effectiveness through assessments, data analysis, and enhancements to support systems.

  • Implement comprehensive sales strategies that align with enterprise priorities.

  • Collaborate with product and sales teams to institutionalize sales enablement capabilities.

  • Provide recommendations on digital content, FRM integration, KPI evaluations, and team training and development.

  • Develop and implement plans to engage advisors through timely, relevant, and appropriate communication channels.

  • Foster a culture of proactive communication and urgency to enhance our consultative advisor experience.

  • Lead the Sales Consulting onboarding program and drive ongoing team development.

  • Travel: as desired or necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or related field desired.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a consultative environment ideally with knowledge of staffing, training and development, project management and benchmarking.

  • FINRA Series 6 or 7

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and conduct team planning with organizational thought process.

  • Ability to anticipate sales trends and provide forward looking vision for approaches to enhance sales effectiveness.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead and drive sales team motivation.

  • Ability to manage multiple collaborative team situations and the scope, risk, and business value of each.

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate staff from various functions through leadership. Creative in solving problems through relationship building techniques and new practice definition that impacts the business process.

  • Industry designations (e.g., FLMI, CFP, CLU, ChFC, etc) desirable.

This position has been classified as a Registered Representative under NMIS guidelines and requires fingerprinting.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$110,040.00

Pay Range - End:

$204,360.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
