Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Data Solutions Engineer. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.


Responsibilities

The Data team guides the firm in leveraging data to gain insights, drive growth, enhance operations, and support innovation. This includes strategic programs such as data governance and architecture, along with tactical initiatives such as self-service reporting and system integration.

The Data Solutions Engineer will design, develop, and implements systems to manage and analyze data efficiently and securely. They will collaborate with the Data and Solution architects to ensure alignment with best practice and strategic objectives.

  • Design and develop data pipelines to gather, transform, and load data from various sources.
  • Integrate data from different sources to provide a unified view.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Provide tools and infrastructure to support data analysts and scientists.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.
  • Collaborate with other teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Monitor and maintain data systems to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with business support teams on BAU management of data solutions
  • Work with other members of the data team to identify suitable platforms and technologies
  • Define best practice technical standards for data solution delivery
  • Keep abreast of the data technological landscape
  • Document data processes, systems, and workflows for future reference and training.
  • Work with the Data Architect to identify suitable platforms and technologies
  • Define best practice technical standards for data solution delivery

  • Implement DevOps for data platform solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field - or equivalent relevant industry experience
  • 2+ years of proven experience as a Data Solutions Engineer or similar role, preferably in a technology-driven environment
  • In-depth knowledge of data infrastructure, system architecture, security best practices, and software development
  • Experience with multiple data storage, management, and integration technologies and platforms
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms, particularly Azure, and Microsoft Power Platform
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Data Platform, including SQL Server BI suite, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, and/or Data Factory
  • Ability to work autonomously under pressure with minimal supervision or as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across different teams and locations
  • Ability to build rapport and strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and industry standards is a plus
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Proficiency in designing, deploying, and managing solutions on Microsoft Azure, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Machine Learning
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Skilled in utilizing Microsoft 365 tools for data collaboration and integration, such as SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive
  • Expertise in developing and automating workflows using Microsoft Power Automate and LogicApps
  • Ability to create and manage custom applications and dashboards using Microsoft Power Apps and Power BI
  • Familiarity with Azure Active Directory for identity and access management
  • Experience with implementing and managing Azure security features, such as Azure Security Center and Azure Key Vault
  • Proven experience working in a professional service environment
  • Ability to develop appropriate data solutions that balance timescales, quality, and cost
  • Experience of working within a framework of change management

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between:

  • California Major Markets* $77,000.00 - $108,000.00
  • New York City $83,000.00 - $108,000.00
  • National $72,000.00 - $93,000.00

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
