THE ROLE The Sr. Manager, Market Data is a key strategic role within the Enterprise Data Management team that will work collaboratively across the enterprise to ensure the effective management and administration of market data services. This role will continually assesses business needs, financials and the data and analytics market to determine the best options and sources of supply for external market data assets and their management within the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of market data management practices, data quality, data pipelines and compliance regulations. In this role, the individual must be an effective change agent and be willing to partner with senior leadership within the business and technology teams to drive enduring changes to how the organization sources and manages 3rd party data and data exchange. Regularly interact with key technology and cross functional business leaders to balance cost, risk, and speed to market to ensure that the business can realize its goals and key objectives. The skills to influence and drive change, combined with the drive to deliver results, will enable the Sr. Manager, Market Data to support the rapidly evolving use of external data and ensure seamless data flows and utilization. WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide ownership of MFS Market Data Vendors
- Develop and communicate a clear mission, vision, and guiding principles for the 3rd party market data function that aligns with and supports the Data, Technology and business strategies and ensures a high level of service from the vendors.
- Manage and maintain working relationships with external data and service providers through the data acquisition lifecycle (initial analysis to contract negotiations and throughout the ongoing relationship - including proper vendor oversight and management practices).
- Partners with enterprise stakeholders to develop and manage the annual enterprise market data budget.
- Working in conjunction with business partners, define and execute sourcing strategies for data assets, products, services, solutions, and digital platforms while maintaining alignment to business unit objectives and priorities. Maintain a working understanding of the market data products and services that are used by the business.
- In partnership with stakeholders, lead data sourcing initiatives and programs, including collaborative relationships with procurement, data governance and risk management teams and overall project management.
- Working closely with data governance, data engineering, data and information architects to establish the appropriate ingestion, storage, access, protection, and metering capabilities as determined by business units and corporate policy.
- Advance the organization's data acquisitions skills by leading the negotiations with new and existing vendors on terms, conditions, quality requirements, protections, and pricing tiers for the acquisition of new data assets. Conduct regular audits to verify data usage aligns with legal and contractual obligations.
- Driving the data sourcing strategy for MFS products, services, solutions, and transformation initiatives. Champion data quality, integrity, and data governance policies and procedures.
- Manage a team of market data analysts, responsible for the analysis, administration and budget tracking for enterprise-wide market data services.
- Develop metrics and KPIs to measure the trends and effectiveness of third-party market data function. Regularly presents to Senior Management and the Management Committee on key metrics and KPIs.
- Continuously seek opportunities to optimize data processes and strategies.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 8-12+ years of experience in data acquisition and market data management in a Financial Services environment
- Proven experience leading 3rd party market data sourcing and vendor management.
- Demonstrated ability to create a well-conceptualized, well-socialized and well-executed data sourcing and management strategy.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with employees at various levels of the organization - including investment personnel.
- Experience in managing and leading a team with a strong track record of fostering team collaboration and delivering results.
- Proficiency in data integration tools and ETL processes. Comfortable in SQL, data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and data management software.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance regulations.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and negotiation skills. Strong ability to translate stakeholder requirements into data sourcing and management practices and business outcomes.
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to work successfully within a Scrum and Agile environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in data science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Master's degree

- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or similar
