The anticipated salary range for this role is between $137,000.00and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

We are seeking a Payments and Deposits IT Application Support / Sr. Applications Systems Specialist responsible for analyzing and designing the business requirements and specifications documents needed to deploy applications. This individual will be part of the Payment and Deposit Applications Group within JRIA combining knowledge of various payment rails and corporate deposit systems. Day-to-day this role collaborates with vendors, developers, and application managers to maintain payment and deposit applications, resolve performance issues, identify incident solutions, and complete projects. The Specialist adheres to established guidelines occasionally exercising discretion and independent judgment to solve challenges. Escalates more complex matters to a supervisor or more experienced staff.

Role Objectives
  • Performs analysis and design of the business requirements and specifications and performs technical analyses to prepare a technical specification document.
  • Submits change requests (CRs), and system maintenance logs (SMLs) as part of the change management process.
  • Participates in build related activity discussions including environment setup, implementation schedules and changes promoted in the test environments.
  • Analyzes technical issues and suggests workarounds or provides long-term permanent solutions.
  • Assists in implementation of system upgrades, enhancements, and the introduction of new systems within a fully auditable environment.
  • Codes and unit tests base applications.
  • Identifies system bottlenecks and conducts performance tuning and testing of applications.
  • Supports and implements vendor applications working closely with vendors on the technical team.
  • Participates in code promotion and release activities within the pre-production environment.
  • Provides various ad hoc reports for business unit users and IT management.
  • Assists in troubleshooting production issues when requested by the Production Support Team.
  • Assists the development team with specific tests that simulate production reported issues.
Qualifications and Skills
  • 7+ years of experience in banking and technology areas including functional knowledge of commercial banking systems (i.e., wire transfer, DDA, cash management, nostro/vostro treasury settlement process, SWIFT and SWIFT statements), check clearing and related accounting entries.
  • Experience undertaking software analysis, code analysis, requirements analysis, and software review.
  • Functional and operational knowledge of CHIPS, FEDWIRE, SWIFT, ACH, Check Deposits, and/or CLS.
  • Strong work ethic with focus on meeting deadlines, objectives, and ability to learn new products and systems in a timely manner.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with users, team members.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Strong skills working with MS Excel, MS Project, MS Word, MS Power Point, MS Visio, MS Teams & SharePoint, Atlassian JIRA & Confluence.
  • Bachelor's degree. Finance, Computer Science, or Information Systems preferred.
  • Previous experience with Agile methodology preferred.
