Scheduling and Purchasing Specialist

We are currently seeking a Scheduling and Purchasing Specialist with the below qualifications:

Professional Attributes



  • Researching and identifying prospective suppliers
  • Liaising with internal project teams and maintaining strong supplier relations
  • Evaluating products and suppliers according to key business criteria
  • Preparing proposals, requesting quotes, and negotiating purchase terms and conditions
  • Preparing and issuing purchase orders and agreements
  • Monitoring all purchase orders and maintain regular follow-up with all suppliers and vendors
  • Monitoring supplier performance and resolving issues and concerns
  • Inspecting and evaluating the quality of purchased items and resolving shortcomings
  • Analyzing industry and demand trends and supporting management with the development and implementation of sourcing strategies
  • Preparing reports and maintaining accurate inventory and procurement records
  • Complying with company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Determining opportunities to move business to preferred suppliers for improved savings and service
  • Evaluating and driving raw material inventory reduction opportunities by collaborating with suppliers and customers in inventory programs
  • Identifying savings opportunity at the site, implementing savings opportunities identified through cross-company RFPs and initiatives
  • Ensuring that information on changes that can have an affect on the FSMS is included in updating of the FSMS
  • Conducting Hazard Analysis
  • Planning and implementing validation processes for control measures
  • Evaluating the results of verification
  • Analyzing results of verification
  • Evaluating the Food Safety Management System at planned intervals
  • Creates an MPS that satisfies customer and company demands through managed resource utilization; utilizes the Master Schedule for the detailed plant, material, equipment and manpower capacity planning as well as financial planning
  • Coordinates with other functional groups to include, Purchasing, Accounting, Project Management, Sales, and Production Manager to ensure that planning activity results in highest possible on-time completion/delivery for customers
  • Participates in the structure and creation of project BOMs most efficient for plant routing.
  • Establishes production schedules based on raw material procurement plans and manufacturing engineering plans
  • Provides the sales team with project completion dates based on the MPS information.
  • Works with Accounting Team to prepare a backlog report indicating the status of all project timelines and estimated dates of completion
  • Analyzes and reports on resource utilization to determine overall resource capacities
  • Coordinates MPS through production, determining material availability, identifying actions and solutions required to meet projected delivery requirements
  • Prepares production analysis charts and machine load forecasts and labor forecasts
  • Follows up on planned vs actual production activity with reports to indicate accuracy
  • Utilizes a basic understanding of lean manufacturing and JIT principles including DBR tools to apply in appropriate situations
  • Other duties as assigned


Desired Skills and Experience



  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Purchasing Specialist or in a similar role.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a similar field preferred.
  • CPM or APICS certification preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of purchasing strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and with business application software, purchasing, and resource planning systems.
  • Strong Excel skills (V Lookup, Pivot Tables, If statements, etc.)
  • Team player with strong organizational skills.
  • Willing to take the initiative and work independently when needed
  • Maintain a high level of Professional integrity and sense of responsibility and accountability.
