Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

We are in search of new talent in the following position...

Position: Manager, Special Events (Hybrid Remote)

Reporting to the AVP, Individual Giving, the Manager of Special Events is responsible for coordinating, planning, and executing a diverse range of fundraising and organizational events. This role will also manage the securing and receiving of in-kind donations from corporate and community partners to ensure that program needs are met.

This position requires a dynamic, detail-oriented individual with strong project management skills, a passion for the nonprofit sector, and the ability to cultivate relationships with internal staff across VOA-GNY's various program sites and external partners.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree required with 3+ years of professional experience in event planning and fundraising operations; familiarity with the nonprofit sector a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, flexibility, creativity, and the ability to multitask.
  • Capable of building relationships with donors, volunteers, program teams.



Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Organize and execute a range of events including year-round volunteer events, donation drives and fundraising campaigns including Operation Backpack, VOA-GNY's annual Gala, holiday drives, donor cultivation events, and more.
  2. Work closely with program teams to develop event budgets, timelines and logistics to ensure seamless and successful outcomes for both clients and corporate sponsors.
  3. Manage the securing and receiving of in-kind donations from corporate and community partners to benefit the clients at VOA-GNY's programs.
  4. Coordinate scheduling logistics for program sites to pick up in-kind donations from administrative office.
  5. Report event details and outcomes for internal/external communications and keep detailed log of in-kind donations received and distributed for reporting purposes.
  6. Perform other related duties as requested.
