Director, Design & Color

Lead and strategize innovation, creativity, management, and execution of all aspects of the creative and technical development for the fashion brand collections. Directs teams to ensure integration and alignment of the full design and color process to create and deliver competitive and innovative results.

Strategize new creative direction and innovation strategies that align with long and short-term business strategies; work alongside a team of designers and color specialists to lead and direct the realization and execution of creative direction and innovation strategies.

Lead and coach designers on both the technical and form base level to realize design concepts in line with target cost and market needs communicated in the merchandising brief.

Drive consistency, innovation, and alignment between design and color strategy granting the highest level of collaboration between the two departments.

Ensure implementation of brand appropriate design language over multiple categories creating a cohesive product family; fully resolved design presentations and compelling story telling internally and to our licensors.

Explore and establish new connections with experts outside of the company to further push innovation to continually improve our competitive edge in the marketplace.

Strategize on continual gathering, sharing, and awareness of trends in eyewear, fashion markets and design community.

Manage and mentor the design and technical team to ensure project goals are being met, including meeting with them regularly, providing feedback/guidance, gathering feedback, and completing reviews, and helping to develop staff

Predict market needs and ensure that the team is savvy in trends, market requirements, competitors, and overall needs of the company and the current business state.

Develop and oversee the department budget and monitor unit expenses to ensure unit costs are within established levels.

Ensure effective communications are maintained within the unit and externally, where appropriate, inform employees as to plans and progress, conduct employee discussion sessions at regular intervals.

Monitor performance of employees; provide prompt and objective coaching, feedback, and counseling to help ensure high levels of engaged team members.

Manage the interview and hiring process for open positions to ensure the most qualified candidates are selected.

Conduct performance reviews and recommend salary increases.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Typically has the following skills or abilities:

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience; Minimum of 2 additional years of experience related to functional area

Minimum of 6 years of management experience with responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work and managing performance of direct reports

Excellent Design Research and Design Thinking including design field research, ability to lead ideation sessions and interpret data and outcomes

Excellent analytical capabilities to capture and interpretate data to improve the design and/or user experience

Strong communication, organizational and presentation skills; ability to give and receive design critique and respond with multiple solutions

Ability to present designs, concepts and stories to all levels of the organization and across various departments

Flexible and able to change priorities and direction quickly and effectively

Ability to regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of his/her job duties.

Travel domestic and international as required up to 30% of the time

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Salary Ranges: $115,000.00 - $182,500.00
