About the Georgia Tech Library
The Georgia Tech Library is a member of the University System of Georgia library consortia, Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education (ARCHE), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), and the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The Georgia Tech Library has a unique and progressive service model that relies heavily on technology and electronic formats. Electronic resources account for 79% of our overall content, 98% of the Library's content expenditures and 99% of our content usage and the majority of our print collections are held in a high-density, climate-controlled storage facility in collaboration with Emory University Libraries. The GT Library works to fulfill the mission and vision of Georgia Tech and is committed to supporting the Institute's new Strategic Plan. Job Summary

Provide access and discoverability to archival collections critical to the Institute's teaching, learning, and research mission. Assist archivists with arrangement, description, and access of university archives and special collection materials (physical/digital) in the Archives holdings. Aid with various archival services, including the creation of original descriptive metadata of physical and digital archival materials. Provide access and reference services support to GT Library patrons, including reference and research services.

This position will interact on a regular basis with: faculty, students, staff, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 - Assist with the arrangement, description, and access of university archives and special collections materials (physical/digital).
Job Duty 2 - Create original descriptive metadata and technical information for physical and digital materials.

Job Duty 3 - Use various archive-specific software programs to describe archival collections.
Job Duty 4 - Assist faculty, staff, and students with archival research and reference services in the Archives reading room while using a variety of specific software programs to assist patrons.
Job Duty 5 - Participate in a variety of library and archival projects and initiatives.
Job Duty 6 - Interpret and apply library policies and procedures regarding archival arrangement and description standards and research and reference services.
Job Duty 7 - Assist archival users in reference searches, locating, and requesting materials and provide information regarding archival resources.
Job Duty 8 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree, or two years college course work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
One to two years of job-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution

Preferred Experience
Three to four years relevant archival experience including physical and digital processing (arrangement and description)

Proposed Salary

Salary:$56,830.80

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Ability to lift 40 lbs or more constantly.

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment; employ exceptional customer service standards; ability to communicate with diverse communities with courtesy and professionalism; and the capability to independently learn new technologies and their applications in archives.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of archival principles, practices, and terminologies.

Knowledge of Archival Software products such as: ArchivesSpace, Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Aeon, LibAnswers, Outline, and DSpace; intermediate knowledge of office-related computer applications.

This is a limited-term position and is subject to availability of funding thereafter. All employment and assignments are ultimately contingent upon available funding, business needs, and your performance of the assignment. Georgia Tech retains the right to terminate this assignment at any time for cause or, in its sole discretion, for convenience; in either case, Georgia Tech's obligation shall be limited to payment for hours and/or days worked prior to the termination date.
