Harmony Biosciences is recruiting for a Senior Director, Business Development in our Plymouth Meeting, PA location. In this role you will play a pivotal role in Harmony's active growth strategy and trajectory. This role will be responsible for providing high level, detailed and technical analysis and assistance in the structuring and execution of transactions, such as licenses, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other collaborations. The key characteristics for this role include stellar analytical and quantitative capabilities; accuracy, research and idea generation and evaluation, management of deal flow research, thoroughness and attention to detail; clear written and verbal communication both internally and with external third parties; ability to work both independently and as a team member; and a high degree of dedication.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborates with Business Development colleagues in maintaining strategy and execution of company goals and plans.
- Identifies trendsetting ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements.
- Locates or proposes potential business deals by contacting potential partners; discovering and exploring opportunities.
- Screens potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities.
- Develops negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals.
- Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
- Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts business development strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
- Monitors competitor products and sales activities. Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
- Guides preparation of business development activity reports and presents to executive management.
- Establishes and cultivates relationships with the pharma community, associations and key opinion leaders to support business development efforts.
- Works with cross-functional organizations (especially clinical and regulatory colleagues) on evaluations and support the development of PowerPoint summaries of market research and/or recommendations to be presented to C-suite leadership.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities currently but could evolve into that type of role as the department grows.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, life sciences or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years' experience in a transactional business development role within the pharmaceutical industry required with a focus on search and evaluation and/or deal execution, or a combination thereof and its underlying analyses.
- Global experience is strongly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel & PowerPoint required.
- Collaborative skills are necessary but also with a self-driven autonomous work ethic is required.
- Possess a growing network of business development contacts within the life sciences sector.
- Track record of BD transactions engagement required, such as being able to provide a cohesive and detailed description of his or her role within specific transactions in the past.
- Comfortable managing all aspects of business development in a pharma environment.
- Outstanding verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills required.
- Demonstrated teamwork ability through effective working relationships with both internal and external colleagues and counterparts.
Physical demands and work environment:
- Travel up to 20% required, which may include both domestic and international travel. Valid US passport is required or ability to obtain.
- While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision.
- Manual dexterity required to use computers, tablets, and cell phone.
- Continuous sitting for prolonged periods.
