PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

As a Project Accountant, you will maintain construction accounting records (modified GAAP and IRS methods), draws, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations for a variety of construction projects (apartment community construction). This position reports to the Project Finance Manager.
What you will do as a Project Accountant:
- Set up, processing, and reconciling the draw cycle for apartment community construction.
- Reconcile job/project cost module to the general ledger and accounts payable module.
- Complete draws including AIA documents, and reconciling estimates from previous draws.
- Monitor sourcing throughout the draw cycle.
- Communicate with applicable departments regarding the draw cycle.
- Responsible for accounts receivable detail for the draw cycle.
- Responsible for accounts payable processing and verification to ensure timely payment of all legitimate invoices.
- Prepare, compile, organize, and code invoices for payment.
- Determine account numbers on invoices to ensure expenditures are properly charged.
- Review dates for invoice payment to ensure appropriate procedures are followed.
- Issue checks in accordance with department schedule.
- Monitor invoices for Sales and Use Tax.
- Maintain files of paid invoices.
- Maintain vendor records, including establishing new vendors, modifying payment terms, and Form 1099 information.
- Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliation.
- Update variance and job cost reports.
- Maintain lien waivers.
- Assist with requests from external auditors.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by the Project Finance Manager.
Project Accountant Qualifications:
- Associates degree or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Two years of related work experience, including draw experience is required.
- Intermediate experience with Word, Excel, and Accounting Software. Sage or RealPage preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercising judgement and initiative.
- Ability to follow-up on projects.
- Ability to efficiently handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
