Timmons Group is currently seeking an experiencedSenior Plannerto join ourRichmond, VA office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct research and develop recommendations on land use, housing, transportation, public utilities and community facilities.
  • Prepare and review interim and final planning documents, including writing, mapping, and graphic design and ensure consistency with local codes and regulations.
  • Assist the project team with drawings, drafting, and preparation of plans while demonstrating knowledge of the general concepts of planning, architecture, and engineering design.
  • Provide leadership and represent clients in planning studies or zoning cases, including the public engagement and public hearing processes.
  • Effectively manage multi-disciplinary teams including the supervision, mentoring and development of junior planning staff.
  • Coordinate with internal infrastructure planning and design, land development, and landscape architecture groups regarding projects and assist with project approvals.
  • Coordinate work on multiple concurrent projects to meet required deadlines.
  • Attend and/or lead a variety of public, stakeholder, and technical committee meetings, including occasional evening and weekend meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirementsof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, or related degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in planning, ideally related to public and private land development, public infrastructure, and/or community development related projects.
  • AICP Certification required (or ability to obtain within one (1) year).
  • Excellent communication and management skills.
  • Creative graphics skills, and ability to distill complex information into public-facing materials.
  • Proficiency with office software including MS Word/Excel and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with statistical programming software, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Arc GIS.
