Overview Appointment Type: Temporary (Temp) Location: Oak Ridge, TN or Remote (U.S. Based Locations) *Salary Range: $17.82 - $23.83 per hour This position will require the selected candidate to have the ability to travel to the Oak Ridge, TN office occasionally. PURPOSE: The successful applicant will be working in a collaborative research environment alongside ORISE researchers and their project collaborators for occupational health and radiation epidemiology studies. In this internship, the successful applicant will be exposed to the various aspects and skills required for occupational health and radiation exposure research, while gaining applied epidemiological experience through collaboration on two Department of Energy (DOE) sponsored projects: The Million Person Study, assessing occupational radiation exposure, and the Comprehensive Epidemiologic Data Resource, a repository of public use data sets and publications related to historical DOE epidemiological analyses. Under the guidance of mentors, the successful applicant will participate in activities such as: review of scientific literature, application of study design, human subjects research policy and Institutional review board (IRB) aspects, historical document review and data capture, data cleaning and collation, data analyses and statistical programming, contribution to research dissemination, and participation on research team working groups. Responsibilities Performs technical work as part of a collaborative effort in the areas of epidemiology, radiation exposure, occupational health, data science/informatics, and other related scientific and health disciplines.
Qualifications High school diploma and 2-4 years of job-related experience or bachelor's degree and 0-2 years required. Master's or other graduate degree in Public Health, Biostatistics, Data Science, or related discipline and pursuing a doctoral degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience requiring similar knowledge, skills, abilities, and performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
