Basic Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant supervisory experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.

Clearance Requirements:

Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is requiredat time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Scrum Master for a program utilizing the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

The Scrum Master (SAFe) guides and supports the agile team in achieving their objectives with efficiency and high quality. This involves managing projects for approved System Change Requests (SCR) and adhering to SDLC processes. You will thrive by leading through example as a proactive, passionate, and energetic coach, always seeking ways to maximize the value delivered. You foster a culture of meeting team commitments. Responsibilities of the Scrum Master includes the following:

  • Enthusiastically lead the team in demonstrating Agile and SAFe principles through SAFe practices and team frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban
  • Work with Product Owner and stakeholders to rigorously plan predictable cadence system patches and prioritize approved deployments to support enterprise maintenance objectives
  • Guide the team's translation of program objectives into detailed requirements and integration milestones that includes generating user stories with clear acceptance criteria and definition of done
  • Verify that your team is performing the agreed-to definition of done
  • Facilitate your team's participation in quarterly PI Planning Events and represent your team in ART level meetings such as ART Sync and Inspect & Adapt demos and retrospectives
  • Act as a liaison between the Scrum team and other teams and stakeholders
  • Coordinate obtaining Government Customer feedback for your team and how to incorporate that into your team plans
  • Ensure the team follows SAFe's roles and rituals, and facilitate agile ceremonies like daily stand-ups, iteration planning, iteration reviews, backlog refinement and retrospectives
  • Track team metrics on performance, flow, and quality and coach the team on improvements necessary to ensure efficient delivery with high quality.
  • Identify and remove impediments that might prevent the team from meeting goals
  • Work with the product owner and team to analyze business requirements, write user stories, and groom the project backlog
  • Prioritize relentless improvement and innovation
  • Facilitate Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) or kick-off meetings
  • Clearly communicate team structure; roles and responsibilities; interim milestones; critical paths; and impacts of any risks, dependencies, or assumptions
  • Review the project schedule, resource requirements, identify and manage risks, and transparently communicate progress and/or blockers against project goals
  • Provide progress and change information into the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)
  • On a bi-weekly iteration, review health for all projects (e.g., technical, cost, and schedule) to identify and resolve problem areas
  • Retrospect on story and feature commitments that are not met, quality escapes, and impediments
  • Ensure Jira always reflects reality and call out changes that vary from the plan.
  • Ability to effectively manage people, including performance evaluations and pay increase recommendations
  • As needed: conduct a final project review at project closeout to ensure service delivery has been completed, ownership has been transferred, records have been archived, cost accounts have been closed, and knowledge base articles/known errors have been documented
  • Competency in productivity tools (Jira, Confluence, MS Project, SharePoint, MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

What you bring to the table:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as a Scrum Master / Team Coach role (3-5 years, ideally using SAFe). Scrum Master certification required.
  • Excellent interaction skills to gain cooperation of others
  • Ability to track, analyze, and present agile performance metrics and facilitate the team's improvement in productivity and quality.( E.g. PI and Iteration Plan burnup charts, flow metrics, defect management, milestone delivery dates)

Target salary range: USD $148,953.60/Yr. - USD $165,245.40/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
