Senior General Counsel provides legal counsel and guidance to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Executive Leadership members regarding a wide range of complex legal matters. Responsible for the oversight of the General Counsel, vendor management specialist, legal process specialist, paralegal & board liaison and other members of the legal department. Senior General Counsel provides legal advice related to credit union operations, regulatory compliance, member complaints, and all other matters as necessary. This individual collaborates with the Chief of Staff to ensure the Credit Union's strategy is viewed through the legal lens and provide legal recommendations for those strategies. Oversee operations related to garnishments and other legal matters related to the credit union's operation.

A Day in the life of a Senior General Counsel can look like:

  1. Participate in the Leadership Team.
  2. Collaborate with the eTeam at the direction of the Chief of Staff.
  3. Prepare and oversee the preparation, strategic alliance, adherence with, and approval of, the annual budget for legal operations.
  4. Responsible for providing legal counsel/guidance for the credit union on complex legal matters. Consult with outside legal counsel when appropriate to resolve complex legal matters.
  5. Collaborates with the president & ceo about legal matters related to the Board of Directors and governance.
  6. Oversee the administrative support functions and administrative staff for the Board of Directors.
  7. Ensure Board work, meetings, and all related documentation are legally compliant.
  8. Represent the Credit Union in court proceedings as needed.
  9. Responsible for overseeing responses to legal matters around all credit union operations.
  10. Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. Primary legal representative for the credit union around these matters and works with auditors and examiners as needed to reach a resolution.
  11. Create and oversee member litigation management process for the credit union.
  12. Oversees, researches, and fulfills the advocacy role in monitoring and advocating for governmental bills, activity in the industry, and reporting that information to the organization.
  13. Review, negotiate, and execute legal contracts for the organization.
  14. Oversees the processing of levies, garnishments and subpoenas.
  15. Perform other duties as directed by leadership.

What you bring to the table:

  1. Law degree with a concentration in Business Law.
  2. Completed and successfully passed the Bar examination.
  3. 10 years of legal experience.
  4. 5 years of experience in financial/bank compliance.
