Position Overview


Position Summary
The position must have HVAC knowledge of basic refrigeration cycle, types and functions, and the methods of maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. Using electrical test devices, troubleshoot and repair chiller electrical control circuits. Independently overhaul small reciprocal compressors. Will overhaul larger reciprocal, absorption, and centrifugal compressors. Checks accuracy and calibrate electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems. Troubleshoot control circuits and replace faulty thermostats, wiring and control devices. Wires, controls and builds and installs duct work and chilled water piping. Removes and replaces joints or lengths of pipe in chilled water distribution systems. Provides technical assistance and mentors other technicians.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Facilities Operations department is responsible for overall planning, design, construction and maintenance of university academic facilities.

The work includes but is not limited to replacing belts and filters, cleaning coils, troubleshooting units and general maintenance of all related equipment. May assist with installations of new equipment as well. In addition, the employee may be asked to assist in other areas as needed, such as plumbing, electrical, or structural maintenance issues.

Ability to perform a limited variety of recurring and related tasks/functions using easily understood steps/processes/functions/applications to perform corrective and preventative maintenance or construction of facilities. Ability to provide technical assistance to others by troubleshooting simple facilities maintenance issues and determining their cause. Skilled at operating basic tools.
