Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,100 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties. We have an exciting opportunity for a Carpenter in our Facilities Management Construction & Renovation Services group, which supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable carpentry and maintenance to the University community. The incumbent performs work of moderate difficulty with responsibilities for constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures of wood, plywood, wallboards, sheet metal, and other building materials. The Carpenter also performs other miscellaneous duties such as lock installation and repair, replacing glass and ceiling and floor tiles, and other building trade-related duties. Duties include:
Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: A minimum of four years of experience in carpentry and woodworking. Experience working in a Medical Center/Hospital setting and experience in reading blueprints is preferred. Licensure: Valid Driver's license. For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks, including a health screen, prior to the start date of the position. Compensation: The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $ 23.50 - $27.50 per hour ($48,800 - $57,200 Annually). New employees to UVA may be eligible for a $3500 sign-on bonus. Physical Demands: Employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).
