Position Summary |
The Director of Student Accounts reports to the Assistant Controller - Financial Operations. The Director of Student Accounts has primary oversight for the Student Accounts office that is responsible for processing tuition payments, refunds, and other financial related matters for students at the University. As part of the
AVC Finance/Controller's division, the Student Accounts Office is committed to delivering exceptional support to the University and its stakeholders that is competent, approachable, reliable, empathic, and responsive. The Director of Student Accounts is responsible for embodying these values in both their actions and attitude, while also motivating their team to uphold the same standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership (25%):
- Lead the development and implementation of policies and process improvements for billing and collections, ensuring alignment with university goals and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Guide the department's vision, planning, and goal-setting initiatives.
- Supervise and manage the student accounts staff, providing training, evaluating performance, and fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
Operational Oversight & Compliance (25%):
- Support the accuracy and integrity of student accounting, including tuition, fees, and payment plans.
- Lead cash management and security protocols for cash handling and eCommerce.
- Ensure compliance with Federal and State policies, safeguarding institutional assets.
- Maintain knowledge of university finance, IRS, and NC Department of Revenue regulations to ensure proper financial management and reporting.
- Expand expertise in university finance and student information systems, in order to efficiently leverage these systems to process data, generate reports, and inform decision-making.
Customer Engagement & Communication (25%):
- Foster effective communication with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to address inquiries and ensure smooth processing of student accounts and billing.
- Champion high standards of customer service and resolving escalated issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with campus colleagues to achieve collaborative University goals.
Financial Reporting & System Management (25%):
- Complete fiscal year-end reconciliations, accrual journal entries, and receivables reporting in compliance with state deadlines.
- Manage required tax reporting, including 1098-T forms and any additional reports as needed throughout the year.
- Oversee critical reconciliations, billing table maintenance, and testing of system modifications.
- Collaborate with university staff to ensure accurate financial processing and system updates.

Required Education/Experience/Skills |
Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in accounting; or Associate's degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills |
Additional years of training and/or experience, a master's degree and
CPA/
CMA certification are preferred. Ellucian Banner System experience is preferred. |
