Position Summary

Under the executive direction of the City Manager, the Police Chief is responsible for the overall management of police services in the community through four divisions of the Police Department including Administration, Operations, Investigations, and Support Services. The Police Chief and their staff plan, organize, and direct all Police Department operations to provide a safe and orderly environment for the City's residents and visitors. The Police Chief is also responsible for media relations, and manages responses to citizen complaints and inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University in Criminal Justice or related field, including but not limited to Public Administration, Business Administration, etc. A Master's in Public Administration is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in rank of Lieutenant or greater in a city with a minimum population of 50,000 or greater with a comparable budget and personnel staffing levels.
  • Excellent leadership, community policing, operations, community partnerships, grant administration, and crime intervention strategy skills and/or experience.
  • Experience and participation in public and community relations programs, are preferred.
  • Participation in state and/or national professional organizations, is preferred.
