We Require
Two years of experience conducting health field investigations, community outreach, and/or case management Bachelor's degree in health promotion, public health, medical technology, health sciences, or health-related field An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis

Experience conducting confidential case investigations and patient interviews related to the transmission of communicable disease Venipuncture experience Working knowledge of epidemiology principles and practices Bilingual in English and Spanish
Job Contributions
Performs complex case investigations and interviews to determine disease origin and method of contraction through contact with physicians, hospitals, and healthcare providers Conducts a full range of investigational activities for chronic and communicable diseases Interviews patients to obtain epidemiological information and determine contacts; may include conducting home visits and patient referrals to medical providers for diagnosis, treatment, and care Provides guidance to investigative staff for improving case investigation techniques and strategies; trains new staff Leads a team of Communicable Disease Investigators in performing community outreach activities targeting high-risk communities, locations, and events Collects specimens, submit samples for laboratory testing
Working Conditions
Position is typically office or administrative work with potential exposure to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel Ability to exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, negligible amounts constantly, and requires sitting, walking, and standing to a significant degree Ability to travel to and from job related locations during the course of a scheduled workday in all weather conditions, subject to County policies regarding use of a County or private vehicle on County business (mileage reimbursement is available) The position requires extensive fieldwork in diverse communities, walking long distances, climbing stairs, and reacting quickly to potentially unsafe situations. Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
