Job Description: This position is responsible for assisting the engineering staff in the creation and maintenance of technical design documentation, such as engineering drawings, CAD models, change notices, and bills of material. This position will include ownership of multiple design projects as directed. This position may also have direct reports. Responsibilities:
Coordinates with Manufacturing Team Members to identify tooling requests. Schedules and plans tooling projects. Leads design reviews for introducing new fixtures or tooling concepts. Analyze manufacturing and tooling problems and formulate solutions. Use algebraic and geometric formulas with tooling engineering data to develop tool configuration. Design drilling, milling, boring, checking, welding, lifting and assembly fixtures. Make assembly and parts drawings using SolidWorks modeling software. Requisition of parts, materials, tools, and all other items as required. Coordinates the on-hand material and consumables for tooling projects. Fabricate drilling, milling, boring, checking, welding, lifting and assembly fixtures. Document all tools and fixtures built. The ability to use standardization of common parts across multiple designs and fixtures. Check fabricated tools against established tolerances. Deliver tools to manufacturing team and trains Team Members on its proper use. Design pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical circuitry with minimal assistance. Create electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams. Conduct tooling projects and lead Team Members with their projects. Write S.O.P. procedures for each fixture and update them as needed. Perform work with independent judgment initiatives. Work with design engineering teams in improving manufacturability of product designs. Coordinate and participate in fixture modifications for ECN's. Coordinate and participate in fixture repairs or replacements. Organize and facilitate meetings as required. Actively participate and lead TIP events.
Tool Designer IV Qualifications & Salary- Required Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Specialized education and/or degree encouraged. Requires a minimum of Ten years' experience in tool design. Experience with Solidworks is required. Requires an expert level knowledge of drafting standards and inspection techniques with the ability to train others. Requires a working knowledge of manufacturing processes Including CNC machining applications, punch dies, forming, automated tooling and welding. Requires a working knowledge of tooling machining techniques and manufacturing practices with the ability to explain processes to others. Requires the analytical skills to convert designs, production concepts or instruction into tooling providing SOP and machine drawings. Requires an extensive understanding of welding techniques and processes. Requires a thorough knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Requires strong problem-solving skills. Requires good inter-personal and communication skills working with cross functional groups throughout Genie. Requires the ability to lead diverse projects which may or may not include cross functional Team Members. Requires the ability to clearly communicate scope and goals, expectations and actively understand effectiveness of communication. Requires the ability to develop detailed project plans. Requires the ability to manage larger scale projects or project teams with clear and concise status updates. Requires the ability to interpret blueprints and be able to work off of prints, sketches or verbal directions. Requires the ability to perform mathematical, algebraic, and physical calculations. Requires the ability to generate computerized and hand drawings per ANSI standards. Requires the ability to utilize measuring equipment.
