- Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field and at least two years of full-time work in a similar functional area.
- Background in leadership development, orientation and transition programs, advising students, budgeting, large-scale event management, leading collaborative efforts, and assessment.

Position Summary |
The Assistant Director for New Student Orientation is an integral part of New Student Orientation and reports to the Director of New Student Orientation. The Assistant Director serves as the primary supervisor to the orientation leader student staff and provides support in coordinating, organizing, and executing year-long Orientation programming. This position works closely with campus partners with a high level of autonomy to partner on other retention and transition initiatives across units. Additionally, this position will supervise one graduate assistant for New Student Orientation, and will support them in their holistic growth and execution of their assigned duties. |

Manage all key aspects of the New Student Orientation Leader Program:
- Conduct the selection, hiring, training, and supervision of New Student Orientation Leaders
- Develop social, relational, and educational programming as directed by supervisor and Division of Student Affairs administration
- Lead training sessions and instruction over the course of the spring preparation semester and May Day Training period to effectively prepare Orientation Leaders to serve in their roles
- Manage Orientation Leader budget
- Establish learning outcomes and key performance indicators for students engaged in the Orientation Leaders program
- Oversee assessment and implementation of feedback of all aspects of the Orientation Leader experience
- Understand and communicate University policy to student leaders and train student leaders on relevant policies and procedures related to their roles
- Monitor and integrate current trends in higher education and student development at UGA and beyond
- Cultivate programs and initiatives focused on orientation leader alumni engagement

Coordinate, organize, and implement New Student Orientation programs for all first-year and transfer students (with direction from supervisor):
- Work with supervisor to facilitate new student orientation programming that centers community, provides space for meaningful connections to campus partners, and encourages personal agency for all incoming students
- Serve as lead for OneUGA, late night programs, and student small groups
- Assist supervisor in developing orientation programs that are responsive to specific needs of various student populations, including but not limited to first-generation students and students from underserved communities
- Assist supervisor in management of logistical details including reservations, accommodations, volunteer coordination, etc.
- In the case of supervisor's absence, serve as point-person for Orientation programming and activities and collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to execute essential programming
- Respond to any emergency or unexpected situations during Orientation sessions to ensure safety and address constituent needs

Supervise graduate assistant and manage administrative processes for part-time and temporary staff members (i.e., undergraduate student staff, summer graduate interns, etc.):
- Coordinate the selection, hiring, training, and supervision of one graduate assistant for New Student Orientation
- Work with supervisor to select, hire, and train other program staff, including undergraduate support staff, graduate interns, practicum students, etc.
- Work with supervisor to ensure timely submissions and approval of timesheets to meet established deadlines, maintain personnel files, and provide sufficient training for all support staff
- Comply with all federal and unit-specific policies and procedures related to student employment
- Actively promote and participate in the development, retention & engagement of each staff member

Collaborate with various campus partners to foster strong partnerships centered on successful transition and retention of students:
- Establish and maintain partnerships throughout the University that are critical to the ongoing development and success of transition and retention initiatives, with specific emphasis on University Transitions and Parent & Family Engagement units
- Represent New Student Orientation interests in on-campus meetings, events, task forces, committees, and other strategic partnerships
- Work with supervisor to establish and expand fundraising and development efforts that can provide long-term support for New Student Orientation initiatives

- Collaborate with supervisor and other Division-wide staff to design and develop content for Orientation publications, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with unit objectives
- Support the development and distribution of electronic communications (i.e., newsletters, emails, social media posts, etc.) to accomplish unit objectives
- Review and edit materials for consistency in messaging, tone, and branding to ensure high quality across all communications
