Job Summary |
Technician and production responsibilities within the
UTD
BEACONS battery prototype facility.
BEACONS is a joint venture with the
DOD in providing resources to aid in the advancement of new technology battery production domestically. This vision encompasses the development of the required workforce and analysis of the domestic supply of critical materials to establish probability. The technician role within the prototype facility will comprise of execution of the development of customer driven new technologies into an industry standard battery product within a prototype production environment. The technician assists battery assembly, validation, data collection, and test lab maintenance for the
BEACONS facility at UT Dallas. |
Minimum Education and Experience |
High School diploma and five (5) years related experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. |
Preferred Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two (2) years of battery manufacturing experience.
- Strong skills in Excel and Word or similar application software.
- Experience with hands-on operations and maintenance of automated equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and train others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Works directly with UT Dallas BEACONS lab customers to ensure battery manufacturing needs are understood and implemented.
- Prepares electrode slurry, coats, punches, and dries electrodes.
- Notifies appropriate parties if anything unusual happens during the mixing and coating process.
- Checks the quality of the slurry based on instructions and reports the results to the leadership.
- Assists in the troubleshooting of process and equipment performance issues.
- Assists in the transfer of public domain knowledge for workforce development and touring visitors.
- Compiles and formats results of tests and analyses.
- Develop more efficient production processes.
- Maintains equipment involved in the processing and testing of batteries.
- Operates and maintains battery test equipment to include calibration, verification, and data computation.
- Adheres to all company, state and federal safety and environmental regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Level:
Performs work under general supervision of the
BEACONS Lab Director and the leadership of the Engineer. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers only the most complicated issues to higher-level staff. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to other technicians and facility visitors. |
