ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's growing Technology team is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer - Data Scientist to join our Applied Technologies Team in Watertown, MA.

As a Machine Learning Engineer / Data Scientist at VHB, you will focus on developing and deploying advanced AI models, including Large Language Models (LLMs), while understanding the full MLOps lifecycle. You will collaborate with data platform engineering and product development teams to align and integrate AI-based solutions into the organization. This role emphasizes the development of robust, production-ready models, primarily within Databricks and Azure environments.

Key Responsibilities

    AI Model Integration: Collaborate closely with data engineers and product development teams to ensure seamless integration of AI models, including LLMs, into the production environment. You will align architecture, data pipelines, and deployment strategies to create efficient, scalable, and high-performing AI solutions.
  • End-to-End AI Lifecycle: Engage in the end-to-end lifecycle of AI models, covering data preprocessing, feature engineering, model development, deployment, and monitoring in production.
  • LLM & AI Model Implementation: Develop and fine-tune Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI/ML models to meet business requirements. Focus on enhancing their performance, reliability, and scalability for applications like Natural Language Processing (NLP) and predictive analytics.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside data engineers to build and optimize data pipelines that feed AI models. Ensure integration with platforms like Databricks while collaborating with product teams to translate AI capabilities into user-facing features, enhancing user experience and decision-making.
  • AI Strategy Support: Contribute to the company's AI strategy by proposing new model development initiatives, especially for LLMs, recommending improvements to existing AI systems, and ensuring alignment with product goals and data engineering efforts.
  • Technical Expertise: Develop and deploy models using Python, SQL/NoSQL, and machine learning libraries like scikit-learn, PyTorch, Hugging Face, etc., primarily within Databricks and Azure ecosystems.
  • CI/CD Integration: Work with engineering teams to integrate CI/CD pipelines, ensuring efficient and reliable model deployment.
  • Documentation: Document workflows, model performance, and improvements for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Minmum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience with advanced analytics in an academic or professional setting
  • Master's degree in computer science, Mathematics, Data Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a machine learning engineer, with a strong background in developing and deploying LLMs and other AI models.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL/NoSQL, and ML libraries like scikit-learn, PyTorch, and frameworks like Hugging Face.
  • Strong understanding of ML systems, MLOps lifecycle, and experience with tools like Databricks.
  • Familiarity with Azure environments and cloud services.
  • Proficiency with Git, software testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
