Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Contracting Manager, the incumbent is a recognized expert and utilizes their advanced contract administration skills to draft and issue highly complex or customized contracts. Involves structuring, and / or administrating contractual documents that establish business relationships with contractors, customers and / or partners. Collaborates with internal partners as well as legal staff to structure contracts. Professional contracting services are provided in compliance with all policies and procedures. Analyzes contracts to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies. Advises management of contractual rights and obligations and provides interpretation of terms and conditions. Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Uses advanced contract administration skills to draft and issue highly complex or customized contracts. Provides consultation, advice on drafting complex contracts and assistance in the interpretation of contract language, which may include consultation with many key stakeholders, General Counsel, and guidance from University policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Effective interpersonal skills required to establish and maintain credibility and working relationships with vendors, colleagues and client groups.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; advanced ability to deal with broad and diverse constituencies using advanced customer service orientation and skills.
  • Advanced organizational, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced listening, political acumen skills and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of contracting principles and practices, methods and procedures used in competitive procurement, including value analysis, and source selection techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and other tools in the Microsoft Office
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of specific contracting assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Legal training and/or certification and/or degree desirable
  • Advanced knowledge of contract law, the California Public Contract Code and an advanced understanding of University's Business and Finance Bulletins and other relevant rules, guidelines, policies and practices.
