Job Description:

The Senior Docket Clerk is responsible for supporting attorneys and firm personnel in various practice groups by providing in-depth expertise in docketing, court rules, procedures, litigation proceedings, and case trial activity. This position assists with maintaining the firm's litigation deadlines and court dates utilizing the firm's docketing system. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

Location: Washington, DC

  • Monitor and maintain office-specific inboxes for receipt and processing of docketing requests.
  • Review court filings, court notices, discovery documents, pleadings, other litigation documents, docket deadlines and court dates.
  • Prepare various docketing case reports.
  • Assist junior docketing clerks with processing of complex docketing requests.
  • Participate and assist with providing docketing training and providing backup support as needed.
  • Advise attorneys, paralegals, practice assistants and global resource assistants on procedures that relate to docketing deadlines and local court practices.
  • Consult with attorneys to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures, including appellate and bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Assist with maintaining firmwide centralized attorneys' e-filing credentials repository.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 4-6 years of experience in a litigation docketing role, preferably within a large law firm. Experience using CompuLaw preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Work experience in lieu of a degree considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of litigation docketing and calendaring procedures.
  • Working knowledge of FRCP, California Rules of Civil Procedures, and California local court rules.
  • Experience using CompuLaw or other court docketing systems.
  • Experience with searching Pacer and local courts' filing systems.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, critical thinking and attention to detail skills.
  • Exhibit a high level of customer service.
  • Willingness to work with a national team of experienced docketing staff to provide consistent quality services.
  • General familiarity with best practices regarding docketing, calendaring and record keeping as they relate to loss prevention issues in the legal environment.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Washington, DC: $62,332 to $89,121

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
