Position Overview

The process engineer works with operations, maintenance, quality, corporate engineering and sales to deliver a lowest cost product that meets quality and engineering specifications. The process engineer drives training and development of key technicians, ferrets out machine and process issues, takes ownership of PSM, leads teams to drive solutions, develops new products and optimizes product lines by reducing variability in the production processes that will improve quality to meet customer expectations.

Leadership & Collaboration




  • Partner with plant production and maintenance staff to fully understand and support daily activities and new projects.
  • Lead implementation of projects through technical expertise and influencing capability.
  • Execute and reinforce improvements with strong change management skills.



Safety




  • Keep Safety in the forefront of team's thinking and approach to work.
  • Lead or conduct risk assessments of equipment to help drive safety improvements using best engineering practices.
  • Actively participate in all Plant safety initiatives, including but not limited to, JSA's, teams, projects, etc.



Quality




  • Own and update run conditions for all processes in the plant and keep database up to date at all times for traceability.
  • Coordinate with Quality group to understand needs to make a product that meets customer commitments and expectations.



Process




  • Lead new product development efforts at plant in coordination with corporate engineering. Conduct trials as needed.
  • Identify machine issues and drive maintenance team to repair quickly.
  • Identify process opportunities and drive capital and plant investment to repair.
  • Work with Plant Manager and Corporate Engineering to develop CapEx plans. Construct payback models for capital projects and verify achievement of financial benefits after completion of project.
  • Communicate effectively, by being a good listener and translating process expectations, from management level to the factory floor level.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Operations to manage process changes in a controlled manner.
  • Conduct GC studies as needed to optimize cure time and conditions.
  • Serve as Liaison between corporate engineering, quality, and facility. Communicate with plant teams regarding projects, trials, engineering functions, etc.



Continuous Improvement




  • Coordinate with plant leadership team. Attend and participate in day-to-day plant operations meetings, lead Kaizen events, perform Gemba walks, etc.
  • Identify process issues and resolve them quickly using DOE (design of experiments) or other like tools to drive improvements.
  • Use lean concepts to lead Kaizen events focused on cost reduction and process optimization.

Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred. Industrial Engineering background
  • 5 or more years' experience in process engineering. 3 or more years' experience in coating and converting; 10+ years of industrial engineering in lieu of a bachelor's degree
  • Hands on, tenacious, determined personality. Knowledge of hand tools and power tools is a must. Position requires use of a multimeter, thermography equipment, gas detection equipment, gas chromatograph, air flow meters, etc.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, lift 50 lbs, stand on feet all day, and communicate well in a noisy environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Travel up to 15%, domestically and potentially globally.
