Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $95,600 - $181,800 The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $115,000 - $135,000.

Job Closing Date

Travel required between UC Merced Campus Locations like UCSF Fresno, and UCSF.

Only US Citizens or those with proof of right to work in US without a Visa (no EAD), will be considered.

This position is approved for a hybrid work modality. There is a possibility of fully remote for an exceptionally well-qualified candidate.

About the Job

The Technical Project and Program Manager for Medical Education is intended to support the establishment and development of the technical infrastructure necessary to support a medical education program at UC Merced. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a full understanding of project and change management in support of senior leaders of the Office of Medical Education infrastructure and programs. To be successful, the incumbent will need strong organizational and communications skills and experience supporting senior leaders of complex programs. The candidate will have project management experience in which the individual has demonstrated sound judgment in working with leaders and key stakeholders to achieve project goals. The SJV PRIME+ program is a multi-campus Baccalaureate/MD program designed to expand high-quality medical education in the San Joaquin Valley. The program will recruit, educate, and support future physicians to serve the communities of the San Joaquin Valley. The eight-year program will take place entirely in the San Joaquin Valley with the goal of increasing the likelihood that graduates enter residency programs in the region and remain locally to practice and care for Valley community members. The San Joaquin Valley (SJV) Baccalaureate/MD program will leverage the power of three UC campuses (UCSF, UCSF Fresno, and UC Merced) to increase the size and diversity of the physician workforce that will be representative of the community they will serve.

The Technical Project and Program Manager will serve as the primary point of contact and coordination for technical work related to the UC Merced Medical Education program. This will involve close collaboration with partners both on- and off-campus, including the UC Merced divisions of Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, the Office of Medical Education, and external partners including UCSF and UCSF Fresno. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for project coordination and management related to technical software development, implementations, and integrations between UC Merced and UCSF information systems. Additionally, the incumbent will support vendor and contract management activities related to software implementations in support of the SJVPRIME+ program and hardware implementations associated with the programming and activation of teaching and learning spaces in UC Merced's Medical Education Building.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Project Coordination and Management - Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison between the UC Merced Office of Information Technology and associated partners supporting the SJVPRIME+ medical education program. Direct and participate in technical projects for software implementations and data integrations to support the program. Identify appropriate technical resources in OIT to execute project deliverables. Partner closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop project requirements, timelines, and deliverables in support of the overall program.
  2. Vendor and Contract Management - Work with identified vendors and technology partners to manage business relationships, contracts, and implementations of software and hardware solutions to support medical education on the UC Merced campus. Coordinate with various stakeholders to identify, select, and procure necessary technologies to support overall program goals and objectives.
  3. Service Management and Transition - Instantiate and operationalize new technologies to support medical education on the UC Merced campus and transition them to existing support organizations for ongoing maintenance and service delivery. Develop documentation and training for support organizations to effectively deliver services to the UC Merced campus community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area from an accredited institution; and
  • 5 years of experience in leading/managing technology projects or 9 years of related experience/education in leading/managing technology projects; and
  • Professional certification (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assess campus needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
  • Proven proficiency in project planning and life cycle development.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; attention to detail and dependability.
  • Thorough understanding of instructional technology methods, systems and equipment.
  • Experience managing complex vendor relationships and contracts.
  • Deep experience with stakeholder management across multiple complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of software development life-cycle.
  • Strong understanding of software integration techniques and data management principles.
  • Familiarity with capital projects and instructional space programming/activation.
