The Opportunity:

Reporting to: VP Strategic Portfolio Management Production Supplies Europe
The Director Strategic Portfolio Management will define and manage our supplier product and service portfolio strategy, ensuring that the product portfolio meets customer needs and enhances Avantors value proposition. Collaboration is key: While the Strategic Portfolio Management team oversees the ongoing strategy for their portfolio the Strategic Sourcing team will negotiate the best commercial terms and the Marketing team will commercialize the products and services.

Position Description

  • Accountable for the long-term strategy, development, ongoing management, and financial performance of the Cell Culture Consumables product portfolio. Looking for a candidate with a strong background in 3D Cell Culture, Organoid development, and Spatial Biology as a plus.

Job Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Financial Performance: Monitor key performance metrics (KPIs) such as revenue growth, profitability, market share to identify opportunities for mix-shift, product optimization and improvement. Accountable forportfolio financial performance (revenue& profitability performance). Implement initiatives to improve portfolio revenue and profitability performance.
  • Portfolio Strategy: Develop and communicate (with access to support/coaching) the portfolio vision, strategy, and roadmap for Supplier & Avantor Proprietary brands based on market research, customer feedback, and business goals. Align these to key workflows/applications in collaboration with strategic marketing.
  • Supplier Management: Participate in relationship mgt with Strategic/Key suppliers.Manage relationships withmid-tier suppliers. Develop & implement supplier stratification (VAS/VPC), go to market strategies & initiatives and align to portfolio & workflow/application strategy. Work with internal stakeholders including sourcing & marketing to ensure execution of supplier initiatives.
  • Product Life-Cycle Management: Manage the life-cycle of product portfolios and define and implement strategies for rationalization and/or replacement & conversion.
  • Market & Competitive Analysis: In collaboration with strategic marketing, conduct market research and competitive analysis to understand customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape. Identify and implement opportunities for product and portfolio differentiation.
  • Portfolio Development: Define product requirements, plan development roadmap, and oversee the product development & introduction process for Supplier and Proprietary products.
  • Product Launch Planning & Execution: Manage pre-launch product management activities working closely with marketing and commercialization teams to develop go-to-market strategies, messaging, pricing and positioning for products. Support marketing efforts with product-related content, collateral, and sales enablement tools. Coordinate product launches (NPI), including defining launch plans & objectives, launch schedules, training and ensuring smooth rollout.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate product updates, progress, and decisions to stakeholders, including sourcing, marketing, sales, operations, and supplier partners, soliciting feedback to inform product decisions.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Serve as a product subject matter expert, advocating for the product vision and value proposition, and building relationships with customers, partners, and industry influencers

  • Business & Financial acumen:strong understanding ofbusinessoperations, comprehension and application of financial knowledge to analyse, interpret, and make informed decisions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate product vision, requirements, and benefits to diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including sourcing, operations, marketing, sales, and customer support, to drive product and portfolio success.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges and obstacles in the product development process and find creative solutions to meet user needs and business objectives.
  • Technical Aptitude: Expert understanding of portfolio technologies, applications, and scientific workflows in various end market applications.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions, customer feedback, and business priorities, and adjust product strategies and priorities accordingly.
