Department Overview
As a security first organization, Technology Delivery Services (TDS) is part of the Information Technology (IT) Department. The TDS teams include Information Security, Planning (architecture and PMO), Application Development, HR & Payroll Development, Infrastructure, and Client Services teams. Position Summary
The Director for Project, Product, and Service Management will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating the diverse teams of project managers, product managers, and service managers across the University of California system, reporting directly to the UCOP Chief Information Officer and Deputy CIO of UC System. This dynamic leader will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans that align project, product, and service management initiatives with the UC system's overarching goals, ensuring excellence in execution, fostering collaboration, and promoting continuous improvement. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of project, product, and service management across the University of California system. The successful candidate will have the chance to make a significant impact on the UC's mission of teaching, research, and public service, driving innovation, efficiency, and collaboration across diverse teams and initiatives. The position also presents challenges inherent to a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, requiring exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to navigate competing priorities and achieve shared goals.

Key Responsibilities

35% Develop and implement UC IT strategic plan to align project, product, and service management initiatives with the UC system's overall goals, fostering innovation and driving organizational effectiveness. Provide guidance and mentorship to project, product, and service managers across UC campuses, cultivating professional development, promoting best practices, and building high-performance teams.

35% Oversee the execution of projects, product development, and service delivery across the UCOP, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget adherence, while mitigating risks and maximizing value. Establish performance metrics, conduct regular evaluations, and implement data-driven insights to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure accountability across all management teams.

20% Foster collaboration and communication among management teams, promoting cross-functional synergy, knowledge sharing, and a unified approach to project, product, and service management. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including UC campus representatives, faculty, administrative leadership, and external partners, fostering trust, transparency, and shared commitment to success.

10% Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in project, product, and service management, adapting strategies and approaches to meet the evolving needs of the UC system and its diverse stakeholders.

Experience
Required Qualifications

  • Min 10 years of relevant work experience as a senior leader.
  • Min 5 years of managerial experience in project, product, or service management, within a complex environment.

Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications

  • Experience in portfolio management, including the ability to prioritize and align multiple product roadmaps to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse individuals and groups, building consensus and inspiring confidence.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects, product development, or service delivery initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and results-orientation.
  • Experience working in IT organizations including IT language and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex challenges in a timely and effective manner, leveraging data-driven insights and innovative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within the higher education sector or a similarly complex, decentralized organization, demonstrating an understanding of unique challenges and opportunities.
  • Familiarity with the UC system's structure, policies, and procedures, enabling effective navigation and collaboration across campuses and departments.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in project, product, and service management, showcasing a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Education
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area such as business administration, management, computer science, engineering and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred.

Travel Requirements
5% occasional travel to other UC campus locations.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position is approved for fully remote from within California. California residents, or those willing to relocate to CA and who wish to work onsite, hybrid, or fully remote will be considered. Not eligible for Visa sponsorship or transfer. Some relocation assistance may be provided if relocating to CA from out of state.
