Role Description:

In the role of Senior Data Scientist (internally known as Senior Data Scientist), you will be part of the high-performing Data Analytics team. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including claim managers, underwriters, actuaries, and data engineers, to solve complex business problems using advanced analytics and machine learning. Your expertise in predictive modeling and statistical analysis will help drive Safety National's data-driven initiatives forward.

Your day-to-day responsibilities as a Senior Data Scientist will include:



  • Developing and deploying machine learning models to address complex insurance and business challenges end-to-end.
  • Conducting in-depth analysis of large and diverse datasets, including claims, policies, and business development data.
  • Applying data preprocessing techniques to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability.
  • Validating and evaluating machine learning models for accuracy, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Creating visualizations, reports, and dashboards to effectively communicate complex insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Staying current with emerging data science trends and technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.


The ideal candidate is someone with a strong analytical mindset, technical expertise, and excellent communication skills. Key characteristics we are seeking include:

Qualifications:

Education:



  • Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or related disciplines.


Required Qualifications:



  • 6+ years of experience as a Data Scientist with expertise in machine learning and predictive modeling.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R and relevant libraries (e.g., Scikit-Learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and risk assessment in an insurance context.
  • Advanced SQL skills for data retrieval and transformation, with experience working in relational databases and cloud-based platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake).
  • Excellent communication skills to present complex data concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with generative AI solutions and their integration into business workflows.
  • Familiarity with insurance-specific data sources, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of database design principles for creating scalable data solutions.

Safety National is committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-based compensation. The target salary range for this position is $113K to $183K. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, and geographic location.
